The researchers who were funded by the National Institutes of Health found that “chiropractic care is more effective than medication in both the short and long term.”
The study followed 272 patients suffering from neck pain for 12 weeks and published the results. In addition to chiropractic care it was determined that exercise is an important factor to protect from future injury and repetitive strain injuries. Many people spend work days in front of computers and repetitive strain injuries have become more common.
5 beneficial neck exercises:
Dumbell Shrug – Standing, lift shoulders up towards your ears and then slowly down. Relax the head, neck and jaw
One-arm Row – Place one knee and same side arm on a bench. With the free arm draw the weight towards your lower chest.
Upright row – Standing, lift both arms up from your waist (close to the body) towards your chest.
Reverse Fly – Lie down on a bench, lift weights outward and up until horizontal.
Lateral Raise/ Shoulder ABduction – Standing lift hand weights out and upward until horizontal and then lower.
*All exercises should be controlled and elbows slightly bent.
The Philosophy of Chiropractic Care places a strong emphasis on the body’s innate healing potential and researchers have found that chiropractic adjustments affect the body on a deep cellular level. This is why the physiological processes that influence oxidative stress and DNA repair may be altered and result in pain reduction.
